vintage notes
While every vintage has its own story, the 2022 vintage at Domaine Lumineux was truly unlike any we’ve experienced. The year started with heavy rainfall and soil moisture accumulation, followed by warm early spring temperatures, encouraging early bud break and setting the stage for what appeared to be an accelerated season. An unusually severe spring frost in April, following bud break, caused a significant delay in shoot and leaf development, shifting the calendar to a later harvest and suggesting potentially lower yields. However, the vines adapted well, and fruit set remained strong.
Throughout the summer, the moisture from spring helped maintain a healthy lush canopy, protecting the grapes from higher-than-average temperatures. During fall, warm dry conditions allowed for extended hang time on the vines— ideal conditions for development of skin thickness, color, and complexity.
With excellent harvest conditions and minimal pressure from rain, winemaker Dave had the flexibility to wait for the optimal moment to pick. Despite the early frost and adjusted timetable, we saw above average yields and beautifully balanced fruit demonstrating the vineyard’s ability to adapt to unexpected conditions.
tasting notes
The 2022 Rosé of Pinot Noir shows a pale salmon pink, bright and inviting in the glass. Aromas of white peach, pear, and mandarin mingle with honeysuckle, a hint of sea breeze, and the lift of garden herbs, evoking the freshness of a summer cocktail. On the palate, juicy pomelo and crisp apple spring forward, rounded by a delicate touch of strawberry. Bright, refreshing, and elegant, it’s a wine that’s perfect unhurried afternoons or easy evenings by the coast.
